Hello everyone! We're still not being very good at keeping up with posting here on Xanga, but Kate and I have been pretty consistent on our other blogs. So, if you're ever wondering if we're still alive, stop over there every once in a while!

Kate's Blog

Kim's Blog

We've been pretty busy lately, but it's a "winter time" sort of busy... projects around the house, pulling the store back together, teaching papercutting classes, and starting to think about spring shows. Our yearly calendar seems to have turned from a homeschool/reenacting sort of circle to focusing on holidays as needed in the store & craft shows. I feel like I'm always thinking three months ahead! It has been a very fun and creative adventure this past year or so, though, and I wish at times there were more hours in the day. (And some days I wish bedtime would come much sooner!) "Hard work tired" is a good kind of tired, though. And all three of us gain great satisfaction from making things with our hands.

A few posts back I had a picture of a desk Chris started back in November... he finished building it this past week, and now it's in our living room and he's using it! He's still trying to decide if he'll stain it or paint it, so it's bare wood. Excuse the work light attached to the top... we have "colonial ambiance" in this living room, and it's hard to see to do paperwork at night! The next home improvement project is to put some not-too-obvious track lighting behind the beams so we can work on things while watching old movies! Anyway, wanted to share with you the unfinished finished project... here's his desk!

Free things...

Hello Xanga Friends!

Just wanted to post a quick note to tell you that...

Our Blessed Road

2. Kate is attempting to start a "Freebie Friday"... if you go back to the last two Fridays, there are some free vintage embroidery patterns. She'd love for anyone to join in the fun!

A Quick Hello...

Good morning everyone! I was up early reading, and then thought I'd take a few minutes to catch up here on Xanga!

We've been chugging along steadily so far this year... not at a fevered pace, but more like the tortoise in the old fable. Slow and steady wins the race. We've all been tackling the store, and Christmas is officially put away until next year. (Except the glitter and mica... it's everywhere!) Lots of furniture has been moved around, and a special little room was cleared out for Kate, who is sewing up lots of neat vintage things to sell when we open back up. She also figured out how to alter the CSS on her blog, and she's REALLY excited about that! Here's one of her creations...

Chris has been making frames, and also spent some time working on the plantation desk he's wanted to build for years... this is as far as it's gotten, and it's really good for holding things as you can see! Work has been pretty scarce for carpenters around here, and it's been good to have a project to work on.

And I've been working on some new papercuttings. Valentines is coming up, so Jo & I are collaborating to do some mixed-media Valentines...

And here's a piece of a new design, soon to be framed... It will have Philippians 4:8 on it...

Before signing off, I'd like to encourage the ladies, if they get a chance, to listen to Nancy Leigh DeMoss's radio broadcasts from this past week or so. She began the New Year with Jonathan Edward's Resolutions, and is now speaking on being committed to spending lots of time in the Word this year. I'm always a few days behind in listening, but so far this series has been excellent, as well as very convicting. We often spend our time reading books about the Bible, and listening to people teach about the Bible, but often neglect the Bible itself. It's been difficult for us to retain a regular Bible reading schedule since we stopped homeschooling. Poor excuse, I know, but Bible was a part of our "schedule" for school, and our schedule is not as regimented as it was back then! We have to continually and determinedly work to carve a part of our day out for the Lord's Word!

Speaking of which... I need to sign off! Have a blessed Lord's Day!

A tiny bit of snow...

Hello everyone! Just wanted to share the hour of snow we had today with you all! It was swirling around the handmade bird feeder our family was given for Christmas, and it looked picture perfect!

IMG_2414

It was a wonderful day for hibernating... the woodstove was making the house nice and warm (and a little smoky due to some wind gusts!), and Kate and I were in a creative/brainstormy/lazy/cozy mood. We got quite a bit of planning and creating done around here today!

I just updated my art blog, and I think I'm finally tired enough head to bed, so I'll just put a link HERE.

Hope you all have a blessed tomorrow (today?)

Happy New Year...

... we missed wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! I am not doing well with two blogs! Or ONE for that matter!

We had a bit of "Laura Ingalls" Christmas here, as did many folks we know, due to the state of the economy. However, remembering the Reason for the Season, spending lots of time with family, making things together, and watching sweet & sappy Christmas movies made this year very special! A little reminder for myself that I tuck in a corner of our guest bathroom every year...

IMG_2351

As usual, I'm looking forward to a brand new year. New Years give us a chance to clean out the cobwebs, organize a few things, rethink our priorities, and start again. This has been a time of serious regrouping for our family, and for us to learn to totally depend on the Lord's provision. He amazes us with something new every day!

As Anne with an "e" said, "Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it."

Look at this neat shadow that was on our kitchen wall for just a minute or so this morning! It's of a carved dove we have on our stairpost, but he sure looks happy to have a new day!
